Stonhard Floors Helps Revitalize Non-Profit Disability Care Center

A New Beginning

The Arc of Burlington County is a non-profit organization located in Hainesport, NJ, that was founded in 1956. Each year, they provide services to children and adults with developmental disabilities through day care, recreational programs, and residential homes.

When The Arc was notified that their 30-year-old program for infants and toddlers with disabilities would no longer be funded and would have to close, they decided to find a way to convert the site to accommodate an adult vocational day program. Years of wear and tear meant that 3,870 sq. ft. of floor had to be replaced with a newer, more inviting surface.

Stains, spills, and marks are common in environments that provide daily service to clients who need care. The Arc’s new floors required a formulation to withstand permanent discoloration, when in contact with liquids or other materials. The facility’s floors failed to stand up to repeated contact with water and did not provide the level of slip resistance they needed for staff and clients.

The Arc required a textured surface with an even higher level of texture in areas such as bathrooms. Additionally, the new floors would have to be highly durable, meeting the demands of wheelchairs, crutches, and walkers. Beyond performance concerns, The Arc’s management also desired to have a floor with a distinct, welcoming appearance.

Stontec ERF provides a highly durable surface to meet the demands of wheelchairs and walkers.

Stontec ERF provides a seamless, stain-resistant surface with slip-resistant texture.

The dedicated staff of The Arc of Burlington County celebrate their newly installed Stontec ERF floor, designed to support their mission for years to come.

The Solution

After searching for a company that would fulfill all of these requirements, The Arc discovered Stonhard, manufacturer and installer of seamless floors. Stonhard determined that Stontec ERF, a dense, stain-resistant, epoxy-based flooring system with a flake finish would fulfill all of the facilities needs and design preferences while providing a low-odor installation for minimal disruption.

The combination of Stonhard primer, Stonshield sggregate, and Stontec ERF undercoat were used to create a strong, solid foundation for the surface. Once this was done, the Stontec flakes were added to create the desired decorative design for The Arc, matching their newly-painted walls and woodwork.

Finally, the system was complete after applying Stonkote CE4, a high-performance, UV-resistant, clear epoxy sealer. The Arc’s new floors will perform and last for years beyond traditional flooring systems.
