Longmont’s Commitment to Quality Leads to Stonhard Floors
Longmont United Hospital is a full-service, non-profit acute care hospital in Colorado. Moisture issues from the hospital’s existing sheet vinyl floor were making day-to-day hospital operations a challenge. Moisture within a concrete substrate can cause floors to bubble up and produce speedbump-like issues that hinder rolling equipment. Longmont sought a new flooring system that could permanently mitigate these issues while providing hygienic conditions and benefits like resilience for comfort, easy maintenance, and noise reduction.

Floors that Look Better, Feel Better, and Perform Better
Stonhard conducted a four-phase installation with temporary walls and a negative-pressure setup that filtered airborne particles to the outside, so scheduled surgeries could be completed. Installers tackled the moisture issues first with a sealer and osmotic pressure-resistant grout to eliminate floor blistering. Following moisture remediation, the Stonres RTZ urethane flooring system was installed in six operating rooms, as well as corridors and storage rooms. For hygienic design and a finished look, an epoxy mortar cove base was installed to protect walls from equipment damage and simplify cleaning procedures.
Hospital planners were delighted with the distinctive design of the new floors and nurses reported increased comfort compared with the prior vinyl flooring.
