The Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) is a major teaching hospital with 89 buildings, 2,600 beds, and a research center on campus. When the facility’s decision makers sought to replace aging vinyl flooring throughout the building, they listed durability, a decorative aesthetic, and easy maintenance as top priorities. Anti-static flooring would be required to support automated guided vehicle (AGV) units in the basement hallways.
Stontec TRF urethane flake flooring with cove base is highly decorative and effective for maintaining sanitary conditions in healthcare facilities.
From decorative front-end corridors to conductive flooring for AGVs, Stonhard has the right solution for any area of your healthcare facility.
Stonhard recommended Stontec TRF, an attractive flake-design urethane mortar flooring system. In addition to superior stain and impact resistance, Stontec TRF stands up to constant foot traffic and is more hygienic than traditional floors with welds or grout. A resinous cove base provides an integral seal at the joint between the floor and the wall.
For corridors supporting AGVs, Stonshield ESD conductive flooring was installed to protect sensitive equipment from static electricity. It also provides abrasion and wear resistance with a wide range of design options. Planners opted for a custom color to brighten the area and improve the experience for staff and visitors. A seamless cove was installed for cleanability.
Stonhard installers provided access routes for patients, worked around procedure rooms and staff schedules, and implemented odor and dust control measures. The medical center was returned to its regular operations quickly.
