Cracked and Uneven Concrete Threatens Technology Lab’s Industrial Aesthetic
Technology Lab, a computer support service provider in Tennessee, bought an older building in an industrial area of Nashville with the goal of renovating it into new office space for its skilled IT workforce. Seeking to maintain the industrial aesthetic of the facility, planners opted for stained concrete flooring; however, issues with the concrete substrate including the presence of cold seams, cracking, and trenching would pose significant challenges that detract from this style.
That’s when Technology Lab turned to Stonhard.

Stonhard installers mechanically prepared the concrete, then sealed with a primer to prevent moisture from causing upward pressure on the floor. Next, cracks were treated with an epoxy membrane to ensure the floor’s adhesion and durability under constant foot traffic.
In keeping with the client’s goal of an open, modern industrial office, Stonhard recommended Reflect from its Liquid Elements high-end commercial line of products. Reflect is a seamless, resilient floor that provides exceptional durability and a contemporary, refined aesthetic. Practical advantages include scratch resistance, effortless upkeep, and comfort underfoot.
Finally, Reflect was installed with a hammered finish and two-color layout comprising of ‘Black Vortex,’ a dark, intense swirling pattern and ‘Smoky Rain,’ a soft, muted tone with an atmospheric feel, to the contemporary design of this space. The final step, Stonseal SK6-SF sealer was used to produce a satin sheen finish. Planners were delighted with how their new floor contributed to the building’s appearance and ambiance.
