Stonhard installs resilient, sanitary flooring in University trauma hospital, enhancing infection control.
A level-1 trauma center hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, required new flooring for its operating rooms and nearby sterile corridors. The building’s preexisting sheet goods were not holding up under the high-traffic conditions. Hospital planners specifically sought a pinhole-free, aesthetically pleasing surface that would provide comfort underfoot for medical staff and hold up to chemical splashes and general abuse.
Stonhard works with hospitals to schedule installs with minimal disruption. Stonres STR, a resilient, sanitary urethane mortar floor was selected as the long-lasting solution to replace the damaged vinyl flooring. STR provides comfort underfoot without being too soft and vulnerable to damage – a perfect solution for spaces subject to heavy equipment, foot traffic, and dropped instruments.
In the adjacent corridors, Stonres RTZ, a weldless, sanitary floor was installed to support infection control practices. This seamless flooring system permanently bonds to the concrete substrate and is more sanitary than traditional sheet goods with heat welds that often fail under stress. Crews installed six-inch troweled radius coves for a seamless, floor-to-wall hygienic finish.
Hospital staff and facility planners were delighted with the end result and were pleased with the installation schedule that allowed them to keep operating rooms in use without a long shutdown period for repairs.
